Anushka Halagatti is currently a medical student at Avalon University School of Medicine who has consistently demonstrated a passion for leadership and
healthcare advocacy. Originally from Karnataka, India, she was raised in Al-Khor, Qatar.
In 2022, Anushka kickstarted the AMSA chapter at Avalon University, serving as president for nearly two years. Under her leadership, the chapter was awarded AMSA’s Chapter of the Month in June 2024. She organized impactful events like the “Fun Run for a Healthy Living” marathons, promoting cardiovascular health and mental wellness, and collaborated closely with Dr. Jeff Koetje to raise awareness for reproductive health. Her leadership extended to organizing Avalon University’s Annual Symposium in both 2023 and 2024, where she also presented her own research. She and her AMSA team have been pivotal in hosting various events, including First Aid/CPR training sessions, Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns, Mental Health Day activities, and Women’s Day empowerment events.
Anushka’s dedication extends beyond her chapter; she is engaged on a national level and has completed multiple scholar programs, including Reproductive Health and Racism in Medicine. Recently, she visited her high school to inspire students during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, encouraging them to pursue careers in medicine. She is always seeking opportunities to grow and build her network and help others.
Anushka balances her medical aspirations with a love for travel, hiking, baking, and sports like basketball and cycling. A former gold medalist in javelin and shot put, she is currently preparing for a future in Anesthesiology, continuing to lead and advocate for meaningful change in healthcare. Anushka’s journey exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a profound commitment to the well-being of others.
