Expanding Home Care for Seniors & More
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) applauds House Democrats and President Biden for their leadership and commitment to the health of our people and our nation. On Monday, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal into law, delivering on promises to make the historic investments needed to repair our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and take meaningful steps toward addressing many of the social and political determinants that deeply impact the health of our patients and communities.
Today, House Democrats fulfilled their promise to America and President Biden to pass the Build Back Better Act that will improve health and health care for millions.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats deserve our thanks and recognition for the tremendous effort it took to reach a compromise on these historic bills. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the Build Back Better package are important steps toward a more equitable healthcare system.
Lowering the price of prescription drugs, closing the Medicaid gap, and expanding home care for seniors will improve the health of our nation and save the lives of patients who previously had to forego medical care or treatment due to cost. As future physicians who are dedicating our careers to caring for people regardless of where they live, how much they make, or who they vote for, our first priority is the health and well-being of our patients.
The landmark provisions in The Build Back Better Act are widely supported by the public, will improve the lives of millions of Americans, and provide a fair shot at a secure and healthy future. This legislation will NOT raise taxes on anyone earning under $400,000 a year and closes tax loopholes, ensuring billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share of taxes.
Now, the Senate must pass the Build Back Better Act. AMSA will continue to fight for passage of this vital legislation, and for the health of our people, our nation, and our future. Stay tuned for action updates!
