Donation of medical textbooks and journals is a wonderful and easy way to help promote education and autonomy in underserved areas. As a general rule texts and journals should not be more than 8 yrs old or more than one edition old. There are several organizations listed that you can donate through but in many schools there are students going abroad during 4th year and 1st year summer that can deliver books directly. Also in schools that have used textbook sales, the left over books can then be donated. As a final note, do not forget about domestic outlet for medical texts, such as rural/inner city health centers and Indian reservation libraries.

Books For Africa is the largest shipper of donated books to the African continent. Books For Africa is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in St. Paul, Minnesota dedicated to helping end the book famine in Africa. Since our founding in 1988 Books For Africa has distributed over 24 million books to children in 46 African nations. Books For Africa also distributes basic medical and nursing texts to 18 African nations. - Bridge to Asia

Global Medical Libraries (GML) works diligently to shrink the health sciences educational gap in developing countries by providing doctors and nurses in the field with the latest professional information they need to most effectively serve their communities.
