Watch: Abortion Provider Appreciation Day Press Conference
with Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09); Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI);
Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chair Barbara Lee (CA-13); Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) and Wendy and David Gunn, Jr.
This year, on Jan 22, 2023, we should be celebrating 50 years of protection for basic reproductive rights under Roe v. Wade. Instead, the Supreme Court overturned Roe in June. We launched the first AMSA Art & Appreciation Project in 2022, in celebration of rights that are no longer guaranteed. Now, more than ever, we must acknowledge how we got to this place in American history, and how we can move forward. We must recognize the inequities in abortion care that existed even before Roe was overturned, and find novel ways to work for abortion access for all.
We begin our daily posts on January 22, 2033, the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The project will culminate on March 10, when we will join allies across the US to celebrate Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, a national day of recognition and gratitude for those who provide abortion care to those who need it, wherever and whenever it is needed.
On March 10, 1993, Dr. David Gunn was murdered by a white supremacist anti-abortion extremist. Beginning in 1996, as a way to honor his life and work, and all of the courageous, compassionate people who provide abortion care, March 10 became the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers.

Myth 1:
Criminalizing abortions
stops them & save lives.
Fact:
Criminalizing abortion neither stops them nor reduces their numbers.
It just makes abortions unsafe. It’s not ‘pro-life,’ but causes pain and death.

“Many college students rely on their campus health centers for care, especially reproductive health care.
Making medication abortion care available on campus would significantly improve access to reproductive health care.”
Medication abortion is extremely safe & effective.
That’s why anti-abortion politicians are seeking to restrict care.
