The project — in two sentences
We recently launched a project to develop a first of its kind medical school scorecard based on data collected from active medical students. This scorecard will evaluate the degree to which US medical schools are addressing a range of essential issues — from environmental health and LGBTQ health issues to diversity in medical schools and student wellness — and thereby shine a light on where medical schools are falling short in adequately preparing future physicians.
The problem we will address
Crucial gaps exist in medical education today. This is AMSA’s view as well as that of many current medical students whose views represent an evolving and more expansive interpretation of the role of physician, and of the skills needed to provide the best possible health care.
The product
Working with expert advisors – and our official project partner, Beyond Flexner Alliance, we will create a survey including domains determined by medical students. (They survey we are currently requesting medical students to take will help determine these domains.) We will draw on AMSA’s long established nationwide network of chapters and membership to distribute the survey to every medical school in the country. Our findings will be publicly reported via a scorecard format.
