AMSA submits comments in response to the administration’s latest attempt to reduce abortion access

Sterling, Va., January 10, 2019The current administration proposes requiring all insurers in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace to send and collect separate monthly bills to patients for coverage of abortion care services. In other words, these insurers will be sending consumers an additional bill separate from other health service. These payments are estimated to be about one dollar, just for abortion coverage.

AMSA has long asserted that women, regardless of age, social status, or marital status, should all have the right to obtain a legal, safe, voluntary abortion; and we oppose any policy at the local, state, or federal level that causes delay and increased medical risk in the delivery of abortion services to women. AMSA has submitted comments to the government in strong opposition to this proposed regulation.
