This month’s Chapter Spotlight is University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Pre-Medical Chapter!
Chapter Objective:
The AMSA UNLV pre-medical chapter strives to prepare future health care providers by arranging a myriad of events for members to attend, which especially encourage early community involvement in order to be acquainted with the needs of the Las Vegas area.
How did your chapter support this objective?
In the wake of the recent tragedy in our city, our chapter promptly participated in various relief efforts for the victims and their families. We encouraged our members to schedule appointments to donate much-needed blood in blood drives held at our campus, local hospitals, and blood bank centers. In addition, our chapter volunteered and also donated items for a donation event held for those affected. Lastly, we donated the proceeds from our campus fundraiser that week to the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund, the official GoFundMe set up for victims and their families.
During our chapter meeting, we offered our full support to our members. Our wonderful chapter advisor provided extra office hours as well. At times like this, we believe that it is especially important to come together to not only serve our local community, but to serve as support systems for each other as well. As future physicians, we must be able to provide the necessary compassion for those we meet while remaining resilient.
What does the leadership team to contribute to the success of the chapter as a whole?
With our various leadership positions, we strive to provide members with a plethora of events that will help prepare them for healthcare positions in the Las Vegas community. We highly value members’ feedback and inputs in order to provide the best possible experiences as well as to continue improving our chapter. We aim to be as cohesive and welcoming as possible to our members to facilitate positive results.
