Program Overview
Health justice is a framework that seeks to address inequities in healthcare access, quality, and outcomes, particularly for marginalized and underserved populations. It connects issues of public health and healthcare systems with broader social, economic, and environmental justice. The goal is to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their race, income, or background, have the resources and opportunities to achieve optimal health. Health justice is about creating fair and equitable healthcare systems that meet the needs of marginalized communities.
In this course, we will take a deep dive into social determinants of health and health equity and empower medical students to become advocates for health justice and social change. We will explore how we can work toward a more just healthcare system and develop an understanding of how to provide better care to our patients and become stronger advocates for our communities. The objective is to engage students in both local and national efforts to address health disparities and promote systemic changes within the healthcare system.

Why will I LOVE this Program?
Most medical schools do not cover health justice in their curriculum. Rather than these sessions being “one more thing on the to-do list,” participants are encouraged to show up authentically and leave feeling empowered, supported, and inspired. With the guidance of a series of expert speakers, all participants will grow in their understanding of health justice and will take initial steps towards putting these principles into practice.
