Pass the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R.1667)

AMSA recognizes National Physician Suicide Awareness Day on September 17, 2021. We thank the  Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation and the Campaign to Prevent Physician Suicide for their steadfast efforts to draw attention to these unacceptable facts:

• Physicians have one of the highest suicide rates of any profession
• More than half of physicians know a physician who has either considered, attempted or died by suicide in their career
• An estimated one million Americans lose their physician to suicide each year

We applaud their calls to support the “well-being of our health care workforce,” their commitment to developing “real strategies to address the root cause of burnout,” and their leadership in advancing the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act  (S.610/H.R.1667) that The Senate recently passed.  

AMSA fully supports passage of Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R.1667). We believe this law is a necessary step to protect health care providers and reduce burn-out.

AMSA calls on the U.S. House of Representatives to take up and without delay pass the  Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R.1667). 

AMSA calls on its members and alumni to TAKE ACTION and contact their own U.S. House Representative(s) to urge the passage of the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R.1667).
