We seek motivated students who are committed to reducing health disparities, interested in promoting human rights, and have strong potential for leadership in global health.

DETAILS

Participants must arrive on Friday evening, November 7th, 2008, and are expected to stay until 4PM on Monday, November 10th. We ask that your school/chapter provide the cost of transportation for each student as well as a $25 program fee.  The Institute will provide food, housing, and transportation to all events.  To participate in the GHLI, you must be an AMSA member.

APPLICATIONS

SPACE IS LIMITED SO APPLY EARLY. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  12 participants will be selected.   Please email completed applications to saeromchae@gmail.com with the following materials as attachments in ONE email:

  1. CV with name, year in school, and complete contact information.  Please provide an address for the state in which you are a registered voter, and your current address if you do not reside in the state where you are a voter.

  2. Description of previous global health experience and its impact on you (experience is not required; this can include work done in the U.S.).  500 words max.

  3. Personal Statement describing why you want to attend the leadership weekend, what you hope to gain from attending, and what you hope to contribute. 500 words max.

  4. Please include the following statement in your application: "I am an AMSA member. I understand that I will arrange for my own travel, with expenses paid by my medical school, to arrive at the Washington-Dulles airport on Friday evening, November 7th, 2008, and I will stay for the entire Institute until 4PM on Monday, November 10th, 2008."  Signed (your name).

*All participants will be informed of acceptance decisions by midnight on Monday, October 20, 2008.  Accepted participants must respond to acceptance e-mail within 24 hours of receiving it.
