Luke Messac is in his fourth year of a dual degree M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Pennsylvania. His graduate research focuses on the history of social medicine in the United States and the history of health economics in southern Africa. His work has appeared in the journal Social Science & Medicine and in a forthcoming volume edited by Paul Farmer titled Reimagining Global Health. A native of Boston, Luke graduated from Harvard College in 2008. He has been a member of AMSA since 2010, and in addition to his role as student editor of The New Physician, he has served as a member of the steering committees of Health Care For All and the AIDS Advocacy Network.
